Q: How long has CYJS been supporting young people in Calgary?

A: CYJS has been supporting young people since 1998.

A: When young people face challenges or demonstrate risk-taking behaviors, sometimes the focus is on fixing what’s wrong. CYJS sees beyond what’s wrong to build on and nurture what’s strong in young people so that they can use their unique strengths to build resilience and overcome challenges.

A: No. We serve young people from all different circumstances and life experiences. CYJS programming helps to build resilience and protective factors in young people that are known to prevent risk-taking behavior or from challenges escalating.

A: CYJS sees strengths and possibilities in young people, where others may see deficits and risk. Most programming for young people is designed to “correct” “fix” and “change” them. We approach programming from the lens that young people already have what it takes to become successful – they just need the chance to see it for themselves.

A: Please contact us so we can help confirm eligibility and choose the appropriate program. There are numerous options and the best fit depends on various factors such as age or whether or not the youth has been involved in the justice system.

A: No. Our programs are generously supported by dontations, external funding and volunteers.

A: Our programs serve youth ages 14-17 and young adults ages 18-24.

A: CYJS serves the city of Calgary and has certain programs available throughout Alberta.
